Finding Motivation with EFT Tapping

When you use Emotional Freedom Techniques Tapping consistently, you grow your window of tolerance. That means that the amount of difficulty that you can tolerate increases. What does that look like in real life? A car cuts you off, everyone is safe, and you're over it in a few minutes. Someone yells at you and you remain calm and clear headed. Your day is suddenly complicated by a bunch of things you didn't expect and you calmly reorganize and carry on. What about finding motivation for something you are resisting? EFT Tapping can help with that too. Refusal Tapping lets you tap very directly about the thing you don't want to do. "Even though I refuse to [do the thing] I accept that's how I feel." Or, if you have no idea what the resistance is about, you can use the Tell a Future Story Technique. This is probably best done with an EFT Practitioner, but you can do it yourself with a little perseverence. Start from a place of zero resistance and then tell the story in very small parts. Every time you feel something in response to a part of the story, be it an emotion, a thought, a sensation, or even a belief; tap until it has resolved. Then start your story again from the beginning. When you can get through the whole story without any reaction, you're ready for a real life test. Go forth and try to do the thing.

I recently used this technique to start a walking habit. In April 2026 I worked through my resistance and walked a few times, but then puttered out. Then in July 2026 I broke the story down into even smaller steps and spent an hour tapping through everything that came up. I have been walking daily ever since with the exception of two days where the logistics just didn't work out. I walked in the rain, I got up early to walk, and I walked late in the day to get my walk in. It appears I have built a daily walking habit, and I can hardly believe it!

If you try this technique, and now you can do the thing, but not consistently or not repeatedly... just like what happened for me the first time...

try again. Perhaps like me, your steps weren't small enough and there was some additional resistance hiding in between. This might be a good time to schedule a session with an EFT Practitioner. Remember that here at Tap Together, we offer a free one hour consult. If you sign the waiver, you can tap with me. There are morning, afternoon, evening and weekend times available. I am doing my best to make it easy. One free consult per person. So get out there and seize the day! If you feel like you can't...consider tapping a few rounds about it.
